Pain Management

The Chinese have a traditional belief that where there is pain, there is no free flow, and where there is free flow there is no pain. Pain is due to stagnation of blood, fluids and qi that accompany an injury or the aging process. Acupuncture and its related modalities treat a wide variety of chronic and acute pain and injury. According to The World Health Organization (WHO), acupuncture is appropriate in the treatment of various musculoskeletal and neurological disorders including arthritis, neuralgia, sciatica, back pain, bursitis, tendonitis, stiff neck, stroke, Bell's palsy, cerebral palsy and sprains.

Brian utilizes Dr. Richard Tan’s Balance Method, Master Tong’s Points and the Sports Medicine teachings of Whitfield Reaves to effectively track down and eliminate source pain. Local needling is not always the best course of treatment, and in some cases may aggravate existing inflammation and pain. However, Brian’s unique combination of distal needling and range of motion techniques allow both patient and practitioner to immediately observe and gauge results.

Sports Injuries

Athletes tend to experience pain, swelling, limited range of motion, stiffness and fatigue. Others even endure trauma sprain, over-exertion, repetitive injury and emotional stress. Together acupuncture and herbs work to:

  • naturally eliminate pain
  • reduce inflammation
  • improve mobility
  • speed recovery time
  • address underlying issues potentially leading to future injury

Acupuncture therapy also leads to improved performance and focus. For children, teens and adults involved in sports acupuncture is effective in treating pain injuries and stress while enhancing overall performance. BACK TO TOP

Acupuncture is typically associated with the use of needles, and the general consensus might be that kids and needles don't mix. However, the field of acupuncture includes a variety of treatment methods not involving the use of needles that are highly effective when applied to children. Massage by hand or with pediatric hand tools, vibrating point activators, tuning forks, suction cups and moxa are some of the techniques used to affect acupuncture points in place of needles. And surprisingly, many kids do just fine with needles.

As an additional tier of treatment, Chinese herbal formulas are prescribed to treat many conditions and illnesses affecting children. Balance Point uses herbs that are safe, and Brian would never prescribe any herbal medicine that he hasn't given or would not give to his own children.

Chinese medicine developed this specialty during the Song dynasty (960-1279). At that time, Chinese doctors recognized the differences between children and adults in diagnosis and treatment and adapted their methods to the treatment of children. Today, this medicine treats many conditions and illnesses affecting children including:

  • asthma
  • allergies
  • bed wetting
  • bronchitis
  • chronic cough
  • colds & flu
  • colic
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • constipation
  • poor appetite
  • poor digestion
  • acne
  • anxiety
  • stress
  • autism
  • Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD)
  • improved concentration and focus for enhanced academic, athletic and artistic performance

When acupuncture, herbal medicine and massage are a combined treatment strategy, infants and children typically respond with immediate results.

Allergy Elimination | NAET

Anyone suffering from allergies or sensitivities knows all too well that symptoms can range from irritating to debilitating. You might have sensitivities to items such as foods, drugs, clothing, chemicals, or even plants, and be unaware that these items are actually causing your illness.

The NAET protocol eliminates allergies while strengthening the immune system. This treatment for allergy elimination involves neuromuscular testing to reveal kinetic imbalance caused by allergens. Through NAET, we can reset the brain and nervous system to overcome adverse reactions to these allergens. Allergy elimination treatments are non-invasive and safe for everyone from infants to seniors.

What are Allergies?

What comes to mind when hearing that someone has an allergy? Does it mean the person suffers from a runny nose and red eyes or perhaps swells and is covered with hives? Could having diarrhea after a meal be caused by an allergy or hypersensitivity? Do allergies play a role in chronic and autoimmune disease? In fact, an allergy is an abnormal, adverse physical reaction to certain substances known as allergens. These reactions range in severity from mild to toxic and allergy sufferers react to quantities harmless to most people.

An individual may be hypersensitive or allergic to common suspects such as wheat, pollen, grass and animals. However, someone may also be just as allergic to some surprising items including vitamins, pharmaceutical drugs, jewelry and plastic. BACK TO TOP

What is NAET?

Discovered in 1983 by Devi S. Nambudripad, M.D., L.Ac., D.C., Ph.D (Acu), NAET (Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques) is a holistic, non-invasive treatment used in eliminating food and environmental allergies permanently.

Dr. Nambudripad began studying various forms of medicine in an attempt to relieve severe allergic symptoms suffered since her birth in Kerala, South India and to help others with similar problems. Her research resulted in the development of a new and effective approach for diagnosis and elimination of all types of allergies. She utilized existing medical knowledge from various fields of medicine and combined them with her own discoveries.

This method of treatment can be safely used on virtually anyone from newborn infants to the elderly. Healthy individuals are treated with NAET to prevent allergies from developing and causing illness in the future.

In addition, NAET can be used in combination with Western medicine to counteract any side effects of medication (e.g. chemotherapy, antibiotics, steroids, etc.) so as to enhance the efficacy of the drugs.

The advancement of technology is continuing to create new chemicals and products that are potential allergens for many people. NAET is a revolutionary solution to provide relief and improve quality of life. BACK TO TOP

How does NAET work?

Combinations of medical modalities (acupuncture, chiropractic, kinesiology, nutrition and Western medicine) are used in the NAET protocol of treatment.

The theory behind NAET is the oriental concept that the body is made up of pathways for the flow of electromagnetic energy or qi (pronounced CHEE). All organic and inanimate matter emits an electromagnetic field. EMF carries a positive or negative charge, and if unsuitable charges from a human and foreign energy field encounter one another the human energy field repels the foreign energy field. This repulsion causes energy blockages in the pathways triggering an allergic reaction. However, if the immune system does not react then the matter and its energy will be absorbed and utilized by the body.

Reactions of the human field can be determined by testing an indicator muscle (specific muscle) before and after coming into contact with an allergen. Muscle response testing or kinesiology is used to detect which allergies are present. When someone is allergic to a substance a strong muscle weakens in response to a message from the brain. The brain immediately focuses its resources defending against a perceived threat causing instantaneous loss of muscle strength. This is one method to evaluate how the nervous system influences muscle function in the presence of an irritant.

Stimulation of certain points on the patient's back balances the electromagnetic fields of the body with those of the allergen resulting in the reprogramming or "rebooting" of the nervous system and brain to stop identifying the substance as a harmful allergen. The key to this treatment is the retraining of the brain occurring in the presence of the offending allergen.

NAET has successfully treated the following conditions:

  • Acne
  • Addictions
  • Allergies
  • Anxiety

OBGYN | Women's Health

For centuries acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine have been helping women overcome conditions related to their menstrual cycles and hormones. Many women endure multiple symptoms on a daily basis throughout different ages in their lives. Research continues to show acupuncture and herbs generate positive results in treating a vast number of women's conditions. Even WHO has recognized acupuncture as appropriate in the treatment of:

  • infertility
  • Pre-menstrual Syndrome (PMS)
  • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)
  • vaginitis
  • irregular menses
  • cramping
  • morning sickness
  • pre-and post-natal care

Emotional Therapy

Staying physically, mentally and spiritually grounded in today's frenetic world is difficult and often overwhelming. As a result, conditions commonly treated include:

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • insomnia
  • improve mobility
  • stress
  • fear and phobias
  • panic attacks
  • "head trash"
  • broken spirit
  • addiction
  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Acupuncture's strength lies in its ability to restore balance physically while calming the mind and leveling emotions. Auriculotherapy, or ear acupuncture, is frequently used to treat these conditions. The ear is directly wired to the brain, which ultimately determines the performance of the entire body. Utilizing the ear not only treats the brain itself, it stimulates the brain to treat targeted areas of the body.
